I highly suggest, that you even plan a little bit what roads to take. According to the information you get, watch out for the 'Scenic Roads', because these
are normally worth to be called that way. Specially in the Utah area, you don't want to miss them. To make detailed plans, including the milage, I recommend to use maps from 'Rand McNally' When thinking about how far you can drive a day, take an average middle of 40 Miles per hour. Please remember, that big attractions, cities, theme parks use extra time.
One more adventage of a good planning is, that if you travel with someone else, you don't get troubles on the road, because you have allready got an agreement on what to see back home.
